♀️Okay, let’s talk about another retelling… Yes, “To Kill a Kingdom” by Alexandra Christo is a retelling of “Little Mermaid” BUT, and please listen to me, it is not romantic as the Disney’s one. “To Kill a Kingdom” is a pretty dark fantasy for YA and I love it. I’m not gonna lie to you, there is romance but it is extremely slow burn (another thing that I appreciate in a YA). Another point in its favor is that it is 100% standalone! SPOILER FREE Lira is the daughter of Sea Queen, and known amongst humans as Princes’ Bane with the hearts of seventeen princes in her collection. I mean it literally, she has ripped hearts from their chests. When a twist of fate forces her to kill one of her own, the Sea Queen transforms Lira into a human to punish her. Floating out on the sea with her new pair of legs, Lira is picked up by Prince Elian’s ship. Elian prefers to consider himself a sirens killer and adventurer. What he wants more than anything is to put a stop to the Princes’ Bane. When he rescues a drowning woman in the ocean, she’s more than what she appears. She promises to help him find the key to destroying all of sirenkind for good—But can he trust her? . . .
