Escape Plan. What’s your escape? When things get hard, what’s our first reaction? What’s our go-to response? Is it to eat? Binge watch television? Go shopping? Call a friend? For me it used to be getting dressed. This was unfortunate because clothing irritates me and back then I felt I needed to prove I was a nudist. “Getting dressed would be a sign that I was giving up.” More stress. (BTW, don’t fall for this line of thinking, it’s BS. We don’t need to prove our nudity to anyone but ourselves.)I still felt the need for the protection of clothing. A way to hide. Being stressed and naked are what most people consider a bad combination. Clothing is suppose to be protection. Our shield. Our cover. But what would getting dressed really change? A better self-image? Hardly. Having given into the urge to cover up and hide before. I knew it only felt confining. Then I really would grind to a halt. But what else could I do? Listen to my body. It was my mind telling me to get dressed because that’s what it was programmed to do. My body on the other hand knew better. It knew what it needed to be okay. So instead of listening to my mind I did what made me feel better as a person. You know what? The stress went away! Don’t get me wrong, the problem was still there. I had a lot of work to do, but the stress over it was no longer causing me to stand still. Facing the problem as myself gave me power to approach it in new ways. Not ways I’ve been told would help, but ways I came up with myself. New directions and solutions that were better than before. They moved things forward instead of maintaining the status quo. Next time you feel stressed, have an escape plan. Listen to you body. Don’t give up. Do what feels right. Text by Made in the Nude. I could find no source for this photo.
