I’ve been quiet and wrapped up in the small world that is our house and my garden and my work. We rarely leave. I started my seedlings so late that things are ripening now instead of in July. Better late than never, I guess. We escaped to Wareham last weekend because my mother-in-law’s family has a private beach and we could go and not be in a crowd. The water was so warm. I get wistful if I go a whole summer without swimming in the ocean. I was spoiled growing up a block front the Long Island Sound. This is my most current garden photo and there’s a split photo of the newly planted seedlings and one a few weeks later showing progress. I grow everbearing strawberries so we should have some for a while yet. Waiting for the margold tomatoes to turn orange and red. It was too hot and suddenly it’s turned cooler. They’re similar to an heirloom like marbonne, but are a hybrid with better disease resistance. David is working from home. We set up a desk in the spare room for him and we’re fine. I was struggling back in the spring working in the same room with him, because he’s in conference calls all day and he shouts bc of the noise cancelling headphones. My noise cancelling air pods do an okay job of blocking him out, but not perfect and I have to charge them after four hours. We’re doing well with him in the other room. I like having him at home. He and the cat nap together as always, but the cat sometimes wants to be the big spoon instead of the tiny espresso spoon.New murder wall for current novel. I wrote 100 pages and realized something major needed to change (and got confirmation from my agent) so I started over, but using all the everything I’d already developed so it’s going well. I’m hovering at 50 pages or 20k words. I’ve never written a kind of spy/mystery before. I’m describing this one as Dorothy Parker and PG Wodehouse write a sort of spy novel. It’s fun, but the plot is futzy because all the teeth in all the cogs need to line up. I like fiddly plotting so I’m happy. I deadheaded the phlox and have been trying to perfect my whole wheat sandwich loaf recipe. I don’t have the patience for sourdough and I don’t like it when it’s very sour. I’ve also been fiddling with recipes for chocolate ice cream, apricot muffins, and dried sour cherry muffins. If I get them to a place I like I can share them. -- source link
