Alaric I (370-410), a king of Visigoths entering to captured Athens. He is interesting figure, because according to sources the sack of Rome was never his primary goal. He had served previously under Roman colours and during Italian campaign his main aim was to gain land for his people and a prominent position for himself in Roman army . Also a lofty ransom of gold would have been appreciated :) These are of course strong demands, but yet again he wanted to achieve them within the framework of empire. As a side note one can mention that emperor Honorius gave late an order that Roman citizens are not allowed to wear trousers :) -- source link
