onlymonica: A REAL floral swimsuit I concocted this design the other day using a combination of real hibiscus (red) and plumeria (white) flowers. The ‘scaffolding’ is a skimpy one-piece swimsuit by Forever 21. It’s a sort of crochet fabric with little holes I could poke the flower stems through, so no sewing or adhesives were used. (And no animals were sacrificed for this design…) I’ve always thought it would be fun to design my own clothing line, but to be honest, there are so many great designers out there already. But I haven’t seen anyone designing clothes using raw plant materials like flowers & leaves. I created a few ‘dresses’ out of large leaves that I haven’t posted yet, but they’re on my tumblr site. Anyway, like all conceptual designs, there are a few problems, namely – the flowers tend to fall off easily. I took about 40 shots and toward the end I was losing plumeria blossoms. (It’s a technical term known as 'being de-flowered’ – ask your mom to explain it to you). But the hibiscus blossoms stayed put, giving me optimism for new designs. If I can harvest enough in a day, I might try a hibiscus skirt, or even a gown. -- source link
