magicinhermadness: alwayskels: I’m so tired of hearing people say eww he’s too old for her. The 13 year age difference between Mike and Ginny isn’t weird to Ginny. You know why? Because her father was 12 years older than her mother according to the original pilot script. I’m not the only one who knew this right? @hipstaa-pleazz @darlinginmyway @magicinhermadness I didn’t even know this but this is an interesting point because we often seek relationships that either mirror our parents’ or are nothing like them, consciously or otherwise. And in a sense, I get the argument. The worry with large age gaps is that someone is being taken advantage of, either the younger person because they’re less emotionally mature than their partner or the older person because their implied elevated status is being abused for the younger’s benefit. And it’s a legitimate fear when there’s merit. Unfortunately there’s none for Bawson. There is literally no one on that show who respects Ginny more or treats her more like an equal. She’s Amelia’s wide-eyed client, Will’s baby sister, Blip and Evelyn'a third child, and the MLB’s player with the most extenuating circumstances. Everyone has their own reasons to handle Ginny with kid gloves, including Mike, but he’s the only one who never uses them. He kills the hero-worship dynamic within minutes of meeting her and from then on treats her like his equal. There’s no predation or favoritism on his part so there can be no victimhood or loss of agency on Ginny’s. -- source link
