annoyingwizard: At twenty, Peter was fresh out of college. In fact, he graduated a full year earlier due to his mother insistence, that he dedicate himself to “hard work”, with the threat of “or else” hanging over his *head* (so to speak); got placed in a *dream* job [especially without any ‘real world’ experience] with his mother’s calling in of a few favors from long time friends.Somewhere along the line, shortly after he *settled in* to the working routine, Peter showed signs of not caring so much over the quality of his work. His boss, a long time friend of his mother, and a woman who shared a lot of her *child rearing* philosophy with her, discussed the problems she was having with Peter and his declining/deteriorating work ethics. After several talks with Peter [with enough warnings, that a bright young man should have picked up on] his boss decided to take his mother’s advice and use “stronger language” and apply “real incentive” [home style], something a mother of three well behaved and responsible *children* was quite familiar with.It took only a couple of after work *conferences* to get Peter to “get with the program. And since Peter still lived at home, his mother felt that the old rule of “punished at school - punished again at home” be reinstated so it applied for work. {And GodHelpHim if he even thought of quitting}. ❤️ -- source link
