transcharacters:Character: Libra Fandom: Fire Emblem: Awakening Gender: Trans man Why: He is the only male character(and adult male) that is voiced by a female actor. He is also constantly misgendered as a woman by other characters. He was abandoned as a child by his mother, for reasons not revealed. However, we do know she was angry, forcing his hand out of hers, wounding him and leaving a scar on his hand. He doesn’t like reliving that memory and wishes her could have his memory erased of it, and other events. It could possibly be because of his identity. His support conversations with Sully especially have very many subtle and not so subtle hints to him possibly being transgender. A lot of it is very vague, but their conversations are a bit odd to be had if one or more of them were cis. - Their first conversation starts off with Sully stating that it must be hard to get privacy in camp, and “I imagine it must be doubly hard for a woman like you.“ To which Libra responses with, ”….. I’m a man.“ Sully feels awkward for misgendering him, but Libra says,“Please. It’s not an unfamiliar situation for me.” Their next conversation is very reminiscent to someone who has never interacted with someone who is transgender before, and is curiously asking them about their experiences trying to pass in certain situations. She asks him how he deals with looking ‘lady-pretty’ and he replies that he doesn’t feel much about it either way. That there isn’t much he can do about the way he looks. But being mistaken for a woman has minor difficulties, “Especially in bath houses. Or taverns. Or, um, anywhere, actually.“ He asks why she wanted to know and she says, "I ask people to treat me the same as a man, and I don’t let anything limit me as a knight. But talking to you the other day got me thinking that… I don’t know. Maybe it’s just time I accept myself more for who and what I am." Which seems as she may be questioning her own identity as well. Libra explains what kind of man he aspires to be and Sully tells him, "That’s exactly the sort of man you ARE, Libra." He then says that he worries that his entire person is an act. And the conversation ends. Their third conversation Sully mentions that she thinks that they are kindred spirits. "The tomboy to end all tomboys, and the most beautiful man in the land!" Libra agrees that he feels a closeness to her and that they share quite a bit despite their differences. - Overall, their conversations go from Sully misgendering Libra, her apologizing but him being used to it. Her asking him questions about passing and how it’s difficult in most situations. Discussions of them both questioning their identities. To finding common ground and shared feelings to their situations. -- source link
