Mountain High - 100 x 100 cm, acrylic on linen, February 2021. I sometimes see a strange photographic quality emerge from the painted layers, but not a clear objective representation of anything, it’s more like the blur of an errant exposure or a darkroom accident. Here I see a faint tree-lined mountain ridge, but it’s far away. The title is a reference to the Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrell tune we’ve all heard. Somehow this image says something to me about the human capacity for devotion to another, and the heights we will climb to be together.
