weisbrot:kjack89:weisbrot:advent calendar 5FIRST < PREV NEXT > “Damnit.”The muttered curse from the balcony was quiet enough that Enjolras almost didn’t hear it, but miraculously, he did, and he set his phone down, frowning. “Grantaire?” he called, somewhat cautiously, and when he got no answer, he stood, making his way over to the sliding glass door. “Grantaire?”Grantaire was standing outside, still muttering profanities under his breath as snow swirled around him. “Grantaire?” Enjolras repeated for a third time, with some amusement, and Grantaire whirled around before breathing a sigh of relief when he saw it was Enjolras.“Oh, it’s you,” he sighed, leaning in to kiss Enjolras on the cheek. He couldn’t close the space between them because of the armful of Christmas lights he held, and Enjolras arched an eyebrow. “Who else did you expect?” he asked mildly, not waiting for an answer before looking pointedly down at the Christmas lights. “I thought you said you didn’t want to decorate this year.”Grantaire made a face. “Want is a strong word,” he hedged. “But after everything, I figured we could use a little holiday cheer, especially in the form of brightly colored lights that all our neighbors can enjoy as well.”Enjolras debated for only a second mentioning how little effect Christmas lights would have given pervasive unemployment, hundreds of thousands dead, and a measly $600 check headed to folks who were on the verge of losing everything, but he immediately decided against it.This was a rare moment where Grantaire was being sincere, and Enjolras had learned a long time ago to cherish such moments.“Not a bad idea,” he said instead, “but it doesn’t explain the swearing.”Grantaire sighed. “As well-intentioned as I may have been, these lights are so fucking tangled that I’m half tempted to just leave them as is and have our holiday spirit take the form of a tangled snarl of lights.”“It would be appropriate for 2020,” Enjolras murmured, a smile twitching at the corners of his mouth. “Do you want some help?Grantaire glanced over at him, surprised. “You hate this kind of thing.”“That’s not true,” Enjolras said, and when Grantaire just gave him a look, he shrugged. “Fine, it’s only partially true. But even I can shelve the Grinch in me for a half hour to help you.”Grantaire hesitated. “You know I would never turn down help from you—” he started, and Enjolras scowled.“This better be good.”“But you are known for neither your patience nor your dexterity, both of which this particular task requires.”Enjolras pouted. “Fine,” he said with a sniff. “It’s cold out here anyway.”He turned to go back inside but Grantaire caught his arm, tugging him closer to kiss him. “If you really want to help, there is something you can do.”“Anything,” Enjolras said instantly.Grantaire grinned. “You can bring me some whiskey. Like you said, it is really cold out here.”Enjolras yanked his arm out of Grantaire’s grasp, scowling as he stalked back inside, even if he immediately headed to the kitchen to get Grantaire some whiskey. “And I wouldn’t say no to you putting it in some hot chocolate,” Grantaire called after him.“Hot chocolate my ass,” Enjolras grumbled, as he was already reaching for the Swiss Miss and two mugs.Grantaire was just lucky Enjolras loved him.
