traegorn: chthonicathenean:traegorn:chthonicathenean:ultrafacts: As the first chemical-free, all natural public swimming pool in the United States, the Webber Natural Swimming Pool is a self-contained swimming vessel that uses plants and natural microbes from a nearby regeneration pond to clarify and purify the water instead of chemicals for sterilization or disinfection. (Fact Source) Follow Ultrafacts for more facts! “This Natural Pool In Minnesota Will Make You Feel Like You’re At The Lake” https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/minnesota/natural-swimming-pool-mn/So it’s cool and all, but there are dozens of lakes in and around the Twin Cities. Don’t get me wrong, I love the concept, but the draw being that the purification process is “like in a lake” when there’s no shortage of decent lakes around to swim in is really funny. Except those lakes require driving out of town. Sometimes for hours. Where there aren’t always public besches. And there’s an effect on natural ecosystems when there’s an increase in human usage too.You can get here on a bus, so there’s not a class barrier, and since it’s artificial there’s no environmental concerns.Oh, and there’s no fuckers on jet skis https://mspmag.com/arts-and-culture/general-interest/beach-guide/There are A LOT of lakes with swimming beaches in and around the Twin Cities, there’s definitely at least one that does not require hours of driving, and I’m guessing most of the ones in Minneapolis and St. Paul have bus lines that go pretty nearby. Public beaches also generally have a set of bouy ropes that separate them from the watercraft area, so jet skis hopefully wouldn’t be a problem. That’s fair, but this is still better than building another chlorine pool. A lot of the lakes in the cities have algae or chemical warnings a lot of the time. While swimming is “allowed” in the lakes, it’s actually not allowed in a lot of them at any given time due to hazards. The pool hopefully avoids that.(and I haven’t been, but some of my friends have said it’s awesome.) -- source link
