Shunned by the townsfolk as the domain of a murderous hermit, the party is drawn in by rumors of horded wealth, gathered decades ago by the commodore while out plundering foreign shores. The miser hasn’t been seen in months, and surely the threat of a mean old man or the haunting of his stubborn specter isn’t enough to scare the players away, is it? Adventure Hooks: When he was a younger and livelier man, the Comodore would descend from his lofty perch to drink with the fisherfolk, sharing a mug of grog and boasts of his glories at sea. When he was deep in his cups, he’d boast of the fine treasures he’d secured, holds full of ivory and gems, rare spices plundered from ports all over the world. He’d slyly insinuate that however rich he’d made his superiors, he’d always stached the lion’s share for himself in some clever hiding place, and would have his drinking companions attempt to guess where the spot may be. While none have directly laid eyes on him in months, some folks report catching glimpses of a strange light burning in the manor’s tallest tower, while others report a man’s shape moving behind the boarded up windows. It’s all the stuff of small town ghost stories, and the local gossips are happy to share grisly imaginings of the lonely miser being driven mad by his own pride, eating rats as his only sustenance or crawling about on the ceiling like a thing possessed.
