Personal opinion: I love arthurian legends too and it is very difficult for me to accept Merlin as arthurian-ish because it’s extremely different (and not in the way: “Omg, look, Gawain is a woman but still she is strong, caring and a woman-defender!” but in the way: “Omg, look it’s Gawain… but they just used the name because the character has NOTHING to do with none of the different arthurian traditions).Still I accept Merlin as a form of arthurian revisitation. Like "Knight Life”. Where Arthur is a major.Still: I don’t like Merlin BBC as a form of arthurian revisitation because I think they just randomly used some names but as much as, for example, I don’t like Mists of Avalon because of how Marion Zimmer Bradley wrote Guinevete.Also I don’t like Merlin BBC as a tv show because it has too many incongurencies and mistakes (example: Why does Arthur know that his mother was killed by magic in the fourth season? He didn’t know about it in the third one) and I am a very precise and annoying woman so I like my tv show with less mistakes. -- source link
