sleemo: Star Wars: The Force Awakens chief concept artist Glyn Dillon: “Rey went from being very well equipped, with lots of gadgets and tools for climbing and scavenging, to being very much pared down. Much simpler. But we were still trying to tell her story in the costume… her arms protected with something like bandage, for climbing amongst sharp metal wreckage… (whilst echoing Luke’s puttees), the wrap she wears on her body, doubling up as a loose turban to protect her from the sun and sand storms. And finally, JJ had requested that she be masked when we first see her, so that it’s not clear who, or what, she is. Since we were trying to establish her as a scavenger I thought it would be cool if she’d made her own goggles from the lenses of an original trilogy Stormtrooper. This would not only indicate where we were in the timeline but also tell us how resourceful and creative she is.” -- source link
