linusrowe:I posted about this on instagram the other day but because of all the messages I got about it I’m putting it here too! For two years I’ve been researching building cob houses after watching someone talk about building their own home for >£1000 / using natural sustainable materials and methods that had been in use for thousands of years up until a few centuries ago / stepping outside the model that says young ppl have to continuously struggle against expensive rents, struggle to eat and settle for less with a life-time mortgage on a house they’re not really happy with if they ever want a permanent home. It started off a vague interest, but the more I’ve been researching it the more I’ve encountered and spoken to artists (and whole artist led communities) who have built their own ~entire farm settlements~ for very little after the land price, and are really encouraging other people to engage with it as a lifestyle / it’s now basically my goal to help create a community like this for the friends I have now who need somewhere safe and stable and supportive to live. Over the past few years I’ve learnt how much the act of putting your hands into the earth, of interacting with the landscape, of having creative control of your own existence, of watching a seed become a vegetable can give agency back to your own life - these seemingly tiny acts can become radical steps to being more fulfilled (and have helped my mental health a lot personally) Anyway tldr I’m taking part in a workshop to build these houses in January and then anyone who wants to build a sustainable settlement of artists/musicians/poets/movers & shakers & is prepared to work for it hmu :––) -- source link
