hausoftruecrime: The effects of being submerged in water on the hands of human corpses. Twenty-four hours or so after being submerged a body will display extensive “washerwoman” wrinkling of the hands, where the upper skin layers become totally waterlogged. After three days the skin begins to detach and is often fed on by fish and other water-dwelling creatures. In a week to ten days the skin may slip away entirely, leaving swathes of exposed musculature on the body. At this point, delayed decomposition sets in and the body begins to bloat, with algae growth and predation accelerating the process. -- source link
