On the evening of May 27th, Deaton stopped at Bible’s house to make a phone call. A few days later, her body was found partially clothed and posed on the bank of Greens Bayou. She had been raped and stabbed 11 times with an ice pick. A neighbor told police he saw Deaton go into Bible’s house the night she disappeared, but by then he had fled to Montana, and Deaton’s murder remained unsolved for the next 20 years.
