dirtymindofchaosghost: So, I get alot of questions about the BDSM emblem that I have on my gas mask symbol that I use practically everywhere, so I figured I’d explain a bit The click through image to this picture leads a site that will ultimately answer all questions (hopefully) but I’m just gonna sum up the actual emblem itself First off, the various ones that me and several others use are NOT the true BDSM symbol that is widely recognized. What’s pictured above, is. There’s a virtual fuckton of symbols that resemble it, some of which are sub cultures within BDSM, but the criteria for what is and isn’t a BDSM symbol is pretty to the letter(like you’d expect anything different?) The outer rim and the inner “spokes” of the symbol are to be of a color resembling and indicating some sort of metal. Most commonly gold, silver, copper, grey, and the like are use to represent iron, steel, gold, etc. The symbolism in this is to represent the chains and other metal commonly used in BDSM play the inner parts are to be black, which represents the controlled darkside of BDSM. I’ve also heard that it symbolizes the leather commonly used in BDSM but I’ve seen nothing to support that. The easiest part to get mistaken is that the three center dots are NOT actually dots, but rather, they’re holes. To show this in pictures, the edge of the hole should be the same metal color a the spokes and rim, and inside that edge should be empty so that the page behind it is visible, or some way so that the viewer sees that they are holes and not dots. These holes are important because they “denote the incompleteness of any individual practioner in that BDSM is at the least a playstyle and at most a lovestyle, and cannot be practiced alone. There is always the need for a complimentary other.” And lastly, the arms must curve clockwise. There is no deep meaning to this, but as it is a part of the acceptable and official symbol, it is considered important and a part of the official design. So why don’t I use an official symbol? Honestly, its just a visual thing. Most people see it and know what its meant to be, so the purpose is met, and I get to be flexible color wise to keep things fresh. However, if I were to ever get jewelry or a tattoo or something more solid like that, It’d be to the official guidelines For more information on the symbol, its history, other uses, and all that jazz, please click the click through link. Very very informative shit. Anyway, I’m done. Bye -- source link
