catholicthinker:Gave a talk at the Mayo Clinic yesterday & met Sister Lauren, one of the surviving Franciscan sisters (only 4 left) who is simply lovely. Insightful, witty, joy-filled, & still serves as the archivist at St. Mary’s Hospital. She has worked at St. Mary’s for 65 years & still types all of her documents on a typewriter (see in background). She just turned 100. The Mayo Clinic wouldn’t exist were it not for the original dedication of Sister Mary Joseph & the selfless dedication of generations of her Franciscan sisters.
