From these, I made a few digital tessellations using Photoshop. A tessellation of an image simply revolves around the repetition of geometric shapes - with no overlaps or gaps. Tessellations can be generalized to higher dimensions in mathematics, as fractal imagery is made using tessellations of itself on an infinitely smaller scale. Tessellation is often used for decorative effect in tiling and quilting, however it is frequently seen in nature; as honeycombs or fish scales or even the cells in our body. M.C. Escher studied tessellations within his work also, which he adds a certain meta to. To create these images, I brought the scan of my drawn crystal cluster into Photoshop and duplicated the layer several times. Arranging them uniformly, I begin to fill in the gaps with the line tool and apply some colour. I added a hexagonal eye ball into a few of my editions, as a symbol of the personal, spiritual realization that art, mathematics, science and nature are one in the same and are connected by these shapes that span the universe. Looking at geometric patterns at such a mind-bending level has reinforced my newfound outlook on life, that delves into the very essence of our existence. -- source link
