We are thankful for the artists who make Roman Susan exist. Before becoming a RS director in 2020, Juan Molina Hernández shared autoretrato o piel vieja y lo que sobra de una manda cumplida (self-portrait or old skin and remnants of a prayer answered) with us at our storefront in Summer 2019. romansusan.org/autoretrato explored image-making through family portraiture, printed textiles, large-format prints, instax, smartphone video, and a storefront garden. This project was a clear favorite of the residents of our building at 1224-1234 W Loyola Ave we met many close people for the first time because of the magnetism, tenderness, and goodwill of this installation. autoretrato was Juan’s first solo exhibition, and was written about movingly by Kandis Friesen in Sixty Inches From Center and Annette LePique in Chicago Artist Writers For more installation images and to read the responses, visit romansusan.org/autoretratoJuan is the Secretary of RS, helping us to keep track of ourselves and to reach beyond what we have done so far. Along with all the artists on our board, Juan is helping us to learn, grow, and improve Roman Susan as a platform and resource for Chicagoland artists. If you would like to support the ongoing experiment that is Roman Susan, you can give us your feedback via romansusan.org/our-ongoing-work or make a contribution through romansusan.org/support -- source link
