Lion’s mane jellyfish (Cyanea capillata) is the largest known jellyfish species, and one of the longest animals on earth. The largest species had a bell (the central ‘body’ of the jellyfish) over 2m across and tentacles almost 40m long. Most individuals living in coastal areas close to shore are smaller. Although beautiful to look at their long tentacles are used to snare and pull in prey and pack a powerful sting. -- source link
