madeinthenude: centauri4-naturism: centauri4-naturism: ayearofdeepcreek: Story time: Sometime around 1980, as a young kid, in my copy of National Geographic magazine, I came across this photo of a nude beach in or near Berlin. Halensee. Before that, I didn’t know nude beaches existed. I was a little kid. It was the end of the 70s, my parents were hippie-leaning, they were nude- and body-positive, we took showers at bath time as a family and sweet things like that. But they weren’t that hippie: I had never heard of a nude beach, even though when I was a little one I remember running like crazy around the house nude at any chance I got, usually after baths. But that’s what kids do, some kids at least. Me, for sure! So I found this photo. I poured over the image, night after night. It was reproduced small, kind of like here with the small pixel size, and so I whipped out my magnifying glass. I really studied this image. I was utterly captivated by it. I couldn’t believe such freedom was possible, it existed, and many people evidently enjoyed it. I think I became a nudist that day, though I wouldn’t visit a nude beach for real until I was 16. In the intervening years, I would come to acquire a copy of Lee Baxandall’s nude beach guide—as a kid, I walked into a book store and bought it—one of the 80s editions. I still have it, and as a teenager, long before the flood of the internet, no tumblrs in sight, I now had many, many more images of freedom about which to dream. Years later, in Los Angeles more recently, I came across the Berlin issue of National Geographic in a thrift store. Of course, it came home with me. It sits in my library, side-by-side with my copy of Lee Baxandall’s guide. I still look at this image from time to time and shake my head at its power over me. We can only hope a good naturist tumblr can have just a little of the same power. “Naturism as a Way of Living” (even thirty years ago) A very nice, first-hand account of young exposure to the clothing-free lifestyle. Please read and share! Content recycle. Retumbl’d for a second look. Naturism and nudism is how we define it. Some feel called to it, others see it as an option. What ever the case, we define it for ourselves and our level of involvement. A great picture and great story. How did you discover naturism? -- source link
