dingdongyouarewrong: dingdongyouarewrong:dingdongyouarewrong:PLEASE tell me what you think the word ‘trope’ means. in your own words. what do you think a trope is. PLEASE tell me. pl well you see a trope means it’s a popular tag on ao3. it only exists in fanfiction! :) that’s famously why you never hear about people analyzing popular tropes in classical literature or across the works of shakespeare :) the only tropes are things like ‘fake dating’ and ‘enemies to lovers’ and if a person is talking about a trope it means they’re talking about fanfiction like really the ironic thing is that these are the people complaining about Internet Poisoned Fandom People, but by exclusively associating a word meaning ‘literary convention’ with fandom and fanfiction and ao3, they themselves are the ones revealing they know very little about literary analysis and can only think about these terms through the lens of fanfiction. my siblings in christ you are the Internet Poisoned Fandom People I’ve been thinking about this post like……all day.I mean, a trope is just a type theme, so it shouldn’t be hard to figure out what your jam is. So, like, I really like SE Hinton. The books she writes tend to focus on: coming of age, absent parents, family that isn’t blood, ‘gang’ loyalty, and all of this tends to take place in certain socio-economic conditions. So, if someone is going to recommend me books that fit those there’s a good chance I’ll like them. So, yeah, if you read you probably have a favourite trope. -- source link
