Preserving Natural Treasures: Removing Graffiti from Wolf Rock Catoctin Mountain Park, MarylandThe area along the Catoctin Mountain ridge in Maryland is a popular hiking destination, offering spectacular views from Wolf Rock and nearby Chimney Rock. By 1900, a sightseeing trail extended from an old wagon road to reach these two outcrops. By the late 1930s, nearly 30 miles of foot trails led hikers to these places of scenic and geologic interest.Until recently, graffiti on Wolf Rock altered the views of this iconic feature. In April of 2018, the Mid-Atlantic Climbers organization teamed with Catoctin Mountain Park to access and remove graffiti from the surface of Wolf Rock. You can read more about the project, the park, and the cultural landscape of Catoctin Mountain Park in the full article: Removing Grafitti from Wolf Rock at Catoctin Mountain ParkDiscover MorePlan your Visit: Catoctin Mountain ParkCatoctin Mountain Park Cultural Landscape Inventory reportWhat are cultural landscapes?Stay Inspired: Arts in the ParksGet Involved: Volunteer with the National Park ServiceExperienced climbers carried graffiti removal supplies to remove paint from Wolf Rock (Photo courtesy of John Zuke) -- source link
