What a pride, you are always supporting noble causes. . Reposted from @jaimiealexander I learned the beautiful history of @amongequals, a not-for-profit, aims to provide an opportunity for the traditionally woven bilum to participate in the contemporary world of slow and ethical fashion. In doing so, they are supporting the traditional knowledge and the women weaver’s personal stories to a segment of the global audience who may not have encountered bilum. Each individual Bilum bag comes with a photo of its maker, a note on the design and what the maker will do with the profits from their creation — of which they receive 100%. Many of the weavers are illiterate, poor, or come from broken or abusive homes, so the dreams are heartbreakingly simple — sending their children to school, buying medicine or food — bare necessities that to them are rewards. So when you purchase an @amongequals bilum for yourself or someone you love, you are buying a bilum that has a very big downstream… It enables the women weavers in Papua New Guinea to earn a sustainable income to support their families and communities and continue this remarkable art form for generations.
