I was thinking about The Glee Project and how Samuel Larsen and Damien McGinty (I had to look his name up, all I could remember was Rory) shared the win and Alex was meant to just have a couple of episodes as a sort of consolation prize.It just goes to show that even Ryan who has pushed boundaries and taken risks, is still prone to making the safe choice. Alex was a flavour all his own, he WAS unique, and yet that didn’t fire Ryan up, he went for the sweet but boring boys, with not much new to bring to Glee’s abundant table of adorable oddities.Only something happened on the way to Glee. Magic happened. Irish exchange student? Blah. Homeschooled dreadlocked Christian teen? Somebody’s trying too hard. Blah. Enter Wade, a shy, sweet-voiced boy, who draws his confidence from deep within. Enter yet another kid for whom Glee is a lifesaver. Enter a young woman who has to fight to be allowed to emerge, to be heard, to be free. Enter Unique.I look at these gifs and I tear up, because Unique was one of Glee’s moments of striking gold.
