multanovitvulpes:porfirio salinas, ca. 1943 I mistook this caption “Salinas” as referring to Salinas CA, haven for dustbowl Okies and Mexicans, but not known for saguaro nor for distant blue mountains …I did not know Porfirio Salinas was a mid-20th century American artist beloved in his own time for his impressionistic oil paintings of the Texas Hill Country. His career as professional artist lasted 40 years and he painted more than 2000 canvases of wildflowers, Texas scenery, and some Mexican folk scenes. According to art dealer info, this specific Desert Scene was a commission from Porfirio’s officer when he was stationed at Fort Sam Houston during WWII. [his works are not old enough to be in the public domain and I don’t know who owns the copyright to this image, but for now I will enjoy the art and not apologize for sharing it along with sharing some knowledge about the artist] -- source link
