deepwaterwritingprompts:Text: Penthouses across our city were occupied by lovely winged creatures. Members of a very rich, and very powerful family of sirens. Yara,I won’t beat around the bush. Send money as soon as you are able. Pipe burst in the apartment and ruined my luggage and good pair of shoes, and the landlord refuses to recompense me. Had to take out another advance just so that I wouldn’t be hobbling into work barefoot. Woke up groggy hearing the waves, and found myself adrift at sea. They tell you this city will kill you, Yara, but they lie about it. You see the pictures on the postcard, spires jutting through the clouds like shoals, the penthouse isles of the sirens, and the jagged rocks of the city far below, oh so alluring. But it is down here among the rocks that we all scrape and scuttle, and the sirens are a thousand feet above us, and when sometimes a half-heard verse of their song drifts down, what do we do? We are entranced, as always. Craning our necks up towards the skyscrapers without even the option to throw ourselves to our deaths. Odysseus at least had a mast and a length of rope. I am down here in the depths of the galley, oaring away, shackled as sure as gravity. Please please please send money. I swear this time not to spend it all on beeswax. Yours (for as long as I can hold myself together),K. -- source link
