Prosthechea brassavolae is an orchid (Orchidaceae) in the subfamily Epidendroideae. This species is part of a multispecies group known as the P. prismatocarpa complex which includes 5 species native to Mesoamerica with a centre of diversity in Costa Rica. This species is found through Mexico south to Panama, where it grows as an epiphyte in montane forests between 1100 and 2700 meters in elevation. It is distinguished from the group by the white-magenta lip which is entire, instead of lobed in the other species. P. brassavolae flowers from January to August in its native range. #plants #flowers #science #botany -- source link
