walkthesame: Patient in Light of Truth (#wtsdevo patience) “A stone was brought and placed over the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet ring and with the rings of his nobles, so that Daniel’s situation might not be changed.” - Daniel 6:17 The lion’s den. Sealed by the hand of the king. Daniel’s fate seemingly sealed along with it. But it only takes God a handful of verses and one night to completely upend what the outcome of this scheme would be. The advisers were arrogant in their assurance that Daniel would be long-dead by morning. The king fervently hoped that this would not be the case, yet still he feared. We already know that God saved Daniel from the lions, but I think there’s a message tucked away in Daniel’s response to the lion’s den. He didn’t cry out in anguish, begging not to be shut away in the den. He didn’t resist. He didn’t tremble or fear for his life. No, Daniel enters the lion’s den and then he waits, because he knows that even as the king is sealing the entrance, God is working something far different than the evil that was intended. Verse 23 says, “And when Daniel was lifted from the den, no wound was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.” Daniel knew, with no shred of doubt, Who God is. He knew that God would work according to His timing and that, whatever God worked, it would be beautiful, yet another testament to His faithfulness. And so, Daniel’s night in the lion’s den wasn’t spent in fearful anguish or impatience, wondering if and when God would show up. Daniel simply knew He would. He trusted in his God and not a single wound was found on him. This is the type of patience God is working in us as we face trials of our own. This is the kind of patience God developed in Daniel during that night in the lion’s den. This is patience in light of Truth. _________________________________________ Devotional Series: Patience (#wtsdevo patience) By: Alexandria // Personal // Walk the Same -- source link
