They are particularly prominent in the skin of the fingers and palms.  In addition to the skin they are also found in other organs (e.g. mesentery, pancreas).These very unique fingerprint-like structures have characteristic whorls formed from concentric lamella. Each lamella is separated from the next by a fluid filled space.
