i-am-adlocked:His Last Vow || The Lying DetectiveSherlock & DrugsJohn and Molly both slapped Sherlock in a “Pull yourself together. I am so mad and concerned about you,” way at first… but they continued on.They’re both angry about their current relationship status. Molly lost her fiancé and John lost his wife. Both of them blame Sherlock for this. Molly’s engagement broke because the one whom she really loves came back, and that happens to be Sherlock. John’s wife died because she died protecting someone else, and that happens to be Sherlock. In both scenes, Sherlock had been left on his own for a long period of time — a month in His Last Vow, and two or three weeks in The Lying Detective. In a sense, he already felt abandoned by his friends and so he resorted to his old friend— drugs. And upon rediscovered, he is now thrown with blame, guilt, and shame.Give him a break, guys. When people love to use the Molly and John mirror subtext but never points out the elephant in the room: that both of them loves to shift blame and unjustly punish Sherlock even though they’re actually mad about something elseMolly’s mad because her engagement broke off. And Sherlock happened to be high and so she uses the “moral high ground” excuse to justify slapping him “for his own good” even though what she’s really upset about is her personal life. Sherlock being high might be disappointing, but it doesn’t justify Molly slapping him three timesLikewise John. He’s mad about the fact that he cheated on Mary and now that she’s dead, he has to sit in the guilt. Instead of admitting to himself that he’s not the perfect saint he sees himself to be, he instead shifts the blame to Sherlock by saying that he killed Mary. In both cases, Sherlock is just happened to be there, doing something less than holy, and the people around him uses Sherlock’s imperfections as a weapon to justify using Sherlock as a punching bag. Honestly, Sherlock deserves better. Sherlock deserves Lestrade -- source link
