This is so freaking cute I had to write something for it. ;A;In the late evening when his shadow finally dots the desert landscape, relief washes over Rey like a soothing balm. She’s unsure if Ben knows or not that she watches from the shadows, peeking out the open hole that serves as their home’s doorway to look for him. Every time he finishes his long walk back he always announces his return and Rey is there waiting, accepting his soft lingering kiss that’s the most comforting greeting. Their eyes linger at one another but the moment is broken when their daughter launches her body directly at her father, hitting him at full speed in the gut. Rey slips back a step and watches as Ben lets out a groan that rolls into an easy laugh. His arms scoop her up, lifting her like she’s nothing. Her laughter is infectious, echoing off the metal walls as the two fall to the floor, rolling and giggling so carelessly. Watching them stirs thoughts in Rey about how she never thought her small shell of a home could ever feel this warm, but they make it impossibly so.Up into the air their daughter flies, riding high above her father as he asks her about her day. She babbles on, telling him about the things she found or how she slipped and went rolling down a sand dune. Ben smiles back but Rey sees the way he also steals looks at her, a sharp loving glint he only gives to his wife.Dinner is always an exciting affair, Rey and their sweet thing of a child racing to see who can finish first while Ben calmly watches on. He’ll chuckle from time to time, usually when Rey takes too big of a bite and has to hurry to take a sip of water to wash it down before it chokes her further. Together they clean up, their daughter underfoot but never in the way, carrying her own dishes to be cleaned with the rest. It use to be painful for Rey to clean them when she had been all alone, the one plate of bread and the other of her dehydrated food cubes. Now Rey would gladly wash a hundred everyday to keep hearing their voices, to not have hers be the only set to put away. When the first cool breeze of the night rolls in is when as a family they go outside. The little one would be lifted or climb her way onto Ben’s shoulders, beaming with a love Rey could say at times felt greater than her own. Fatherhood had been a topic she’d been worried about when they first found out she was pregnant, but with in the first few days of their daughter being born Rey never worried again. Ben had taken to it so naturally, always careful, always patient with their youngling. She loved the way Ben would touch her, how he would gently place his hand on top of her head and stroke her hair slowly. The love and light he had in his heart felt just as big and wide as any darkness he’d ever had harbored before.“What about that one?” the youngest Solo asked.“Which one?” Ben said nudging her with a lifting of his shoulder.“That one!” she laughed and pointed to a flickering star.Lifting his own finger up Ben pointed to the same one and she bounced in place, “That’s not a very good star,” he muttered and then pointed to a one nearby. “I think this one is better, twinkles more. Don’t you think?”“Daddd,” she whined and jabbed her little finger at the one she had pointed out. “That one’s bigger and brighter!”“Is that important?” asked Rey while she leaned closer into her husband’s side.“Of course it is!” their daughter huffed.Ben looked away from the night sky and turned to his wife. “I think I found a better one,” he said warmly and moved closer to give her a tender kiss. -- source link
