fictionmatters:In marking the start of Black History Month, I wanted to share this beautiful newly released Harlem Renaissance collection from @penguinclassics. While black history and literature shouldn’t be relegated to a single month, it’s a great excuse to share our favorite books by black authors and discover new writers of color for out to-read lists. I taught Passing by Nella Larsen for the first time this year and was so pleased and proud of the deep and difficult discussions my students engaged in as part of this unit. I hope to continue to strengthen my Harlem Renaissance unit which means increasing my own familiarity African-American classics. I’ve taught some DuBois and Hughes, but I haven’t even read Schuyler, McKay, or Thurman. I’m really looking forward to meeting these authors this month and am so in love with these gorgeous editions! Thanks so much to @penguinclassics for gifting me these books. #HarlemRenaissance #GeorgeSchuyler #WEBDuBois #NellaLarsen #LangstonHughes #WallaceThurman #ClaudeMcKay #AfricanAmericanLiterature #IGReads #ReadTheClassics #Bookstagram #FictionMatters -- source link
