jimtheviking: oldnorse: beautiful-tragicinthefalloutboy: “Previously, researchers had misidentified skeletons as male simply because they were buried with their swords and shields. By studying osteological signs of sex within the bones themselves, researchers discovered that approximately half of the remains were actually female warriors, given a proper burial with their weapons.” (Source) Okay, I’m about done with this. The article it’s citing is from 2011, and states that half of the graves with swords in them belonged to women; while it would be *awesome* if we have forensic anthropological evidence of these women being warriors (breaks and cuts in bones, signs of violent death, bone spurs on the heels of their hands, etc.) the article doesn’t go into it.Unfortunately, the article itself is paywalled and costs something ridiculous like $20 to get a 1-day rental on, which is nowhere near enough time to do proper research and comparison. im tryna get the academic article rn actually its not happening -- source link
