ryunoohi:thenib:From Kasia Babis. This is a Strawman. (ꐦ-‸ლ) I have literally never met any one individual who has made both of these arguments. They just don’t come from the same people. You’re either pedantic about your fantasy/historical accuracy, or you’re not. Anyone who makes bad arguments about fantasy armor is uneducated about the purpose of armor, which is to protect vital areas without sacrificing mobility. Boob Plates simply don’t exist in functional* armor. Other than that, cultural definitions of modesty differ & evolve over time, so some nudity actually was historically accurate, for females as well as males, e.g. Greek wrestling in the nude. I’m not gonna argue the whole “minorities in historical fantasy” because there are differing views dependent largely on the isolation/cosmopolitan nature of geographic areas. Suffice to say if you were a peasant in a tiny mountain village in Western Europe, you could go your entire life without seeing anyone who didn’t look a lot like you. If you lived in a big port city, your experiences would be vastly different. The problem with this comic is that, in addition to being a Strawman, it grossly oversimplifies the context.*Ceremonial armor, for both females & males, tends to be the exception to rule that usually inspires the infamous Molded Abs or Boob Plate. That stuff was typically only used in parades or ceremonies, not in battle. -- source link
