vintagenorway: April Fools: queue of customers with different vessels outside Vinmonopolet’s outlets at Majorstuen on April 1, 1969In 1950 Aftenposten published an Aprils joke so good that it has been repeated several times since. They said that Vinmonopolet (the liquor store) had run out of bottles, and were selling wine cheaply and without fees to those who brought something to pour the wine in. Many believed the joke and showed up with buckets. One story tells of a man who was fooled by this joke by some colleagues at work. He went down to the shop and was told that it was April Fools. He then bought some bottles of wine, poured them into the bucket he brought, came back to work with wine in his bucket and bragged about how cheap it was. All his colleagues ran down to the store. It is also said that there were buckets all over the streets that day, people were embarrassed to have been fooled and did not want to be seen with a bucket so they left them everywhere. -- source link
