the-antiapocalyptic-man: Jess Chambers, Kid Quick; The Flash of TomorrowI love them and their Flash costume is actually one of my favorites of the Future State, but instead of replicating something I already feel works v well, I decided to design for the younger, Teen Justice-era Jess. Obviously a lot of Impulse made it in to my take, but updated to be more of zoomer who doesn’t know how to dress themself. Brendan McCarthy’s absolutely bonkers-ass dimension-hopping Barry from his issue of Solo is one of my favorite Flash costumes, and Jess ends up dimension-hopping themself, so that and a bit of Paradax. I imagine the gold bracelet-doohickey is a kind of automated vibrational frequency modifier/regulator, combining Amazon hi-tech with design by Professor Allen (a non-powered STARLabs tech on E-11) to prevent Jess from wandering too far afield and out into the Dark Multiverse or something, but most importantly making sure they can always find their way home. That last bit is kinda sappy, but other than Firestorm TAS pitch (which I don’t think I ever posted in full) I don’t write a lot of child characters? The Headverse has a bit of horror spin with all the King of Tears stuff and even a bit with Captain Atom and his Extreme Justice cult-era, but I have fondness for a lot of DC’s all-ages output. The Franco/Balthazar Superpowers mini is lowkey one of the best event comics of all time and yea, I’m completely serious, Firestorm absorbs Darkseid’s Omega Beams in the climax, it fucking owns. I see Jess as existing in the Headverse’s All-Ages sphere.I know I say this about half the characters I post on here, and Jess is v new in publishing terms, but I really love this character and what they represent. Having more canon nonbinary characters is a big deal and I think that’s something to be celebrated. -- source link
