Piuma - 010Gilera debuted its new Bialbero (DOHC) single cylinder engine in 350cc form fitted to the 1985 Dakota trail bike. This was followed, in 1987, by a 492cc version in the Nuovo Saturno road bike. During 1990-91 a batch of 50 (one additional bike was later built from spare parts) Saturno Piuma (Feather) Corsa machines were built in the Gilera race department for use in the European Super Mono series. The capacity was increased to 569cc (with a few 620cc bikes being made available to factory supported riders) and a completely different, Cesare Bossaglia designed, alloy twin-spar frame was employed. A 41.5mm Dell'Orto carburettor was fitted. Only 16 of these bikes are believed to have survived. 58hp at 8,500rpm. Dry weight 121kg. Top speed 215kph. Photographed at the Piaggio Museum, Pontdera. 2015. -- source link
