wallacegardens: Georg Ehret (1736), First Ed. Genera Plantarum for Carl Linnaeus’ sexual system of plants published in 1737. The illustration shows the division of the vegetable world in 24 classes, and arranged “alphabetically” to represent Linnaeus’ 24 classes (the letters J and W were omitted from the alphabetical classification). Somewhat scandalous and shocking at the time, this classification was deemed “repugnant and immoral” by botanists of the day. Such a fantastic system. I cannot imagine how my fellow botanists can be such Puritans whilst looking at the sexual organs of plants all the day long. -- source link
