lickerish-button:#this is SO interesting tho #narrow minded of what steve really wanted #he was so blinded by his own need to protect protect protect #that he couldn’t see that what steve really wanted #needed #was some space to breathe #and the serum gave him that #breathing space #but it pushed bucky too far away #when he was already out of his own head with the torture and the fire in his veins #fUck #i queue what he does just slower (via stuckystan)I suspect that Steve’s transformation was disturbing to Bucky not just because Steve didn’t need him anymore, but because it confirmed (in Bucky’s mind, anyway) his longstanding fear that he’d always needed Steve more than the reverse was true. In his mind, Steve’s need was to be protected (though Steve certainly would have had something to say to that), and now that need’s been eliminated, but meanwhile there’s nothing that can eliminate Bucky’s need to protect. And that’s the whole persona he’s created for himself, so the feeling of needing Steve to reassure him that nothing’s changed, or (god forbid) to comfort him after what he’s been through, must be incredibly frightening. Everything he’s been through since entering the war is just one shock piled on top of another; even if he’d survived the train and they’d gone home after winning the war, I can’t imagine him adjusting well. -- source link
