1941 12 07 Flying into A War - Stan Stokes“Flying into A War” is dedicated to the B-17 crews who just happened to arrive from Californian in the midst of the attack. On one of the B-17s, a navigator, John Crockett, had just survived a B-17 crash about a week earlier. As his B-17 was approaching Oahu, it was strafed by a Zero knocking out one the the engines. Crossing over Ford Island, another engine was shot out by the US Navy. A short time later, Crockett’s B-17 crash landed at Bellows Field. He survived again unscathed. A little over a week later, John was in a B-17 that ditched off Honolulu. Once again, he survived. 3 B-17 crashes in a month! He actually survived the war and lived to a nice old age! -- source link
