dovewithscales:feathery-dreamer:dovewithscales:feathery-dreamer:dovewithscales:I’m actually really really tired of the excuses. They don’t let you into a store if you forgot your pants, so don’t forget your mask. No one cares that shoes are painful and uncomfortable for me so I had to spend a ridiculous amount of money on shoes that hurt me slightly less because they’re mandatory to wear even though bare feet don’t kill people. If you have a medical reason you can’t wear a mask, then you have a medical reason not to go into a store at all, and the reasonable accommodation as required by the ADA is curbside service, not your right to endanger everyone around you. There’s no valid excuse to go into a public place with no mask. Period.all good except the last oneinstead of “GROW UP” it should be “show your proof” - assuming there is a medical document of sorts to exempt you from wearing a regular mask due to a respiratory issuehowever… they ought to then wear proper face shields instead, as well.I actually do have lung issues that make it hard to breathe with a mask on. If I can’t breathe, I go outside. If you can’t wear a mask, you can’t go inside. Period. There’s no valid documentation. aw damn… I hope you get better soon (unless it’s a chronic thing, then… idk they didn’t teach me what else to say)well, I still think you ought to be let in with a face shield, too. people with respiratory issues still need to go shopping for food and stuff, and may not have nearby family or good neighbors to do it for them.It turns out I may actually have always had very mild undiagnosed asthma, which was exacerbated by lung and heart damage caused when I got covid before there were any restrictions in place. It’s getting better but we have no idea if I’ll recover completely or not. Which is why I’m very concerned with covid precautions. If people had taken this seriously to begin with I wouldn’t still be recovering a full year later. I’m not convinced face shields are adequate. Airborne water particles can float around a solid face shield. That still puts other people in danger. It is morally and legally required that stores accommodate disabled people, but not in a way that puts other customers and employees at risk of serious harm. No matter how disabled you are you can’t bring a “service tiger” into a store. Because that’s not safe.If you can’t wear a mask, it is not a reasonable accommodation to let you in a store without one. A reasonable accommodation is curbside pickup and online shopping. Which almost all grocery stores have in some form.If you can’t do online shopping, can’t wear a mask, and can’t get anyone to do your shopping for you, then letting you put people in danger still isn’t reasonable and the store has no obligation to provide you with unreasonable accommodations.Conversely, people who are at high risk from covid require that stores make reasonable accommodations to make sure they can go shopping, such as not letting people in without a mask, even if they have a medical reason not to wear one. If it’s not possible to accommodate both people who can’t wear a mask, and people who can’t leave their house unless everyone else wears a mask, then we’re gonna have to pick one, and it’s gonna have to be the one whose needs won’t get anyone killed. -- source link
