Black Lesbian Caucus members, Christopher Street Liberation Day, New York City, c. 1971. The Black Lesbian Caucus, formed in 1971 by a group of former Gay Liberation Front members, offered lesbians of color an alternative both to the white male-dominated political organizations in New York City and to the exploitative and discriminatory atmosphere of most urban gay and lesbian bars. In 1974, the group reformulated as Salsa Soul Sisters, Third World Wimmin Inc; today, the group is known as the African Ancestral Lesbians United for Social Change. #lgbthistory #lgbtherstory #gay #bi #lesbian #trans #black #pride #blacklesbiancaucus #salsasoulsisters #thirdworldwimmininc #africanancestrallesbians (at Christopher Street) -- source link
