The Syrian memory has slowly and systematically been experiencing amnesia, a great loss and destruction for a countless number of reasons. Zakera is an initiative that aims to relieve this issue. Zakera, which translates to “memory” in Arabic, is a Syrian project that aims to sustain the Syrian memory, to collect, archive, conserve, and maintain what has been created and what will be created in regards to Syria - anything from, but not limited to, human rights violations, civil and non-violent activism, cultural production and art, and military and armed actions. Through a digital platform and project-specific servers, Zakera will be able to preserve the Syrian memory, what was and what will be, safely and permanently. How can you get involved?
