jaydick-week:Have questions about what a fandom week is or how it works? Never fear! We’re here to enlighten. What is a fandom week?A fandom week (fanweek) is a week dedicated to characters, pairings, or a fandom. They are meant to inspire and encourage fans to create any and all types of fanworks. Check out the Fanlore page to read about the history of fanweeks, or our Other Events page to see examples of other ship-friendly fanweeks in the DC fandom. How does a fanweek work?Over the course of a two-week period, interested fans (that means you!) will have the chance to submit general, open-ended prompts through Google Forms. Prompts can be anything from tropes to AUs to lines of dialogue—for example, Assassin AU or Meet Cute or “Stay with me.” The only limit is your imagination! After the prompt submission period, prompt voting begins. Everyone will have a chance to vote on their top twenty-one (21) prompts. The mods will then take the winners and organize them into a list of daily prompts, as chosen by you. Each day of the week will have three possible prompts, plus one extra “free space” on the final day. That is, each day will look something like this: Day 2: Mermaid AU | Hurt/Comfort | Star-crossed LoversParticipants will then have several months to prepare fanworks for as many or as few of the prompts as they would like. You are free to combine or interpret prompts however you see fit. Maybe you write a H/C fic about mermaids. Maybe “Star-crossed Lovers” is really about alien boyfriends. Again, the only limit is your imagination. Once the week arrives, participants can start posting their works. Traditionally, you post on the day of the prompt, but late submissions are welcome as well. Just make sure you tag your post with the week/year (#jaydickweek2021), or mention the week @fanweekname (@jaydick-week). If you are posting a work on AO3, see if your fan week has a collection you can post to (like we do!). The mods will then reblog your work, or link it from AO3, as an entry for the week. Because all entries are archived and organized on one blog, fanweeks are great way to discover new creators and be discovered yourself. It’s free virtual real estate! When can I get started? The prompt submission period for JAYDICK WEEK 2021 opens on Sunday, November 29th. That’s only seven (7) days away! In the meantime, feel free to brainstorm prompts. You can also submit a Jaydick Spotlight if you’d like to highlight your favorite works. Have any other questions?
