I Want To Die But I Want To Eat Tteokbokki [죽고싶지만 떡볶이는 먹고싶어 백세희] by Baek Sae-hee | Book Review I really challenged my Korean ability when reading this but I pushed through it because it has been on my TBR for so long that I am glad I got through such a great book. The name of the book itself already grabs your attention for sure so you can see why I picked it up in the first place! But it was the story inside that really kept me powering through and it was one that took me to a direction I didn’t expect. This is an essay novel exploring the author’s personal experience with depression. Already a hard topic to digest but I’m glad I read it all as it took me on a journey to examine my own mental state and explore my world a little more in detail. It speaks openly and honestly about the experience with depression and therapy and doesn’t brush off any matters, they go deep.It shows that avoiding such topics can be far more harmful than anything and to examine ourselves and look at the anxieties and pressures we feel in a new lens. To not ignore them and actually learn to care for ourselves. I found it quite comforting how honest Baek was in this novel, it never felt forced or harsh to read, it felt like most people would be able to get something out of this story. It does not force a message upon you but tells you rather to build your own ways to look at life as we are all unique. If you know basic Korean I would for sure try this out, it was worth taking my time with and getting through even when I had to translate the odd word! This book is in Korean so if you wish to read it be aware of that! I’m not sure if it is out in English. You can buy it here. -- source link
