This is Nazid Kimmie. One of my oldest and closest friends, who happens to be Muslim. When we first met, in my late teens, he was a non-practicing Muslim as I was a non-practicing Jew. In the last twenty years I went off to Israel to become an Orthodox Jew as he too returned to his faith as an Orthodox Sunni. We met up last night for a coffee, now as two religious men, from vastly different paths, having not spoken in years. It was a terrible evening - full of accusations, attacks, aggression and fury, which nearly erupted into outright violence… Nah, just kidding. It was super-sweet and loving, and full of deep moments of connection. Because that’s what happens when people are decent and respectful and basically healthy. It’s not religion that divides us. It’s people being idiots that divides us. Whether you’re Jewish or Muslim don’t be an idiot. That is all.Doniel Katz / Accidental Talmudist -- source link
