#repost @intisarabioto: Many people have heard me talk about Portland-based artist Isaka Shamsud-Din. I posted about him and his work recently on @artinamerica, have interviewed him several times, and first photographed him back in 2013 at the start of @theblackportlanders.. He turns 80 this year and has recently been diagnosed with cancer. His sister Rosemary Banks has started a GoFundMe to support him at this time. This is a call to support his survival and thriving.. to give this Black arts elder the space and time to take best care and create. Isaka Shamsud-Din is one of our great artists in the Pacific Northwest and anywhere/everywhere. He is a part of Black American history. We must invest in the people who have continued to invest their time, genius, and efforts in our shared cultures .. and this person has. It is the least we can do at this time in this city to uplift this individual who has carried so much culture for decades .. embedded our important histories in artistic works that will last lifetimes. Please take the time to contribute and share widely this important call for support for an individual who has been integral to Black artistic legacy and cultural preservation. As we uplift and support Black elders we uplift and support ourselves…. We can uplift Isaka Shamsud-Din now. Link here and in bio.
